Treatments For Head Lice

The main treatments for head lice usually involve using a head lice shampoo, like Rid or Nix, and then remove nits with a lice comb. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for whatever products you choose to use, which typically includes a second treatment 7 to 10 days after the first head lice treatment.

When faced with the risk of head lice, most parents and families turn to the trusty nit comb to search for, identify and fish out nits and lice. These combs are fine-toothed, small and easy to use – simply scrape through each section of the hair thoroughly and deposit whatever is found on a tissue. The hair must be wet first (however it must not be pre-washed with pesticide or ordinary shampoo) and the combing should begin at the base of the hair (the scalp) and move upwards, after it has been pre-brushed with an ordinary hair brush to remove all tangles for maximum ease and less pain.

Once this is done, hair should remain nit-free. However, when the comb has proved its worth and been used, there is no protection from re-infestation at all, and this is how head lice-preventing hair care products are incredibly useful. Used as a daily wash, these hair products (which range from conditioners and shampoos to hair styling gels and sprays) can be used as a home remedy for head lice and will constantly keep nits away from the family if correctly and repeatedly used.
